LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 19, 2008) – While yesterday's well-known masterpieces by artists like Van Gogh, Picasso and DaVinci can be found in art galleries around the world, today’s world of technology takes the art gallery online to introduce the artists of tomorrow. Via Second Life, an Internet-based community where users, or avatars, communicate and visit with others from around the world in a digital environment, virtual art galleries are giving artists a new world to show their work. On the strength of just such an exhibition of art on the University of Kentucky’s own virtual island, the UK Department of Art has been invited to show at another virtual gallery in Second Life.
